Harry Styles became the first man featured on the cover of Vogue solo. The picture features Harry wearing a dress and suit jacket blowing a ballon in a grass field. This simple picture broke records and created extreme controversy.

Candace Owens, a young black woman who supports Donald Trump and is against Black Lives Matter, tweeted, “There is no society that can survive without strong men. The East knows this. In the west, the steady feminization of our men at the same time that Marxism is being taught to our children is not a coincidence. It is an outright attack. Bring back manly men.” This tweet started a flood of criticism targetting both Harry and Candace. Several people defended Candace, claiming that “real men” don’t wear dresses and that the media has created a false illusion of masculinity.

Fans of Harry Styles immediately came to his defense and Candence started trending on Twitter shortly after. She defended herself, stating, “Since I’m trending I’d like to clarify what I meant when I said, ‘bring back manly men.’ I meant: Bring back manly men. Terms like ‘toxic masculinity,’ were created by toxic females. Real women don’t do fake feminism. Sorry I’m not sorry.” In an Instagram post, she continued to express her opinions, saying that “The left hates normal” and “Women simply do not like men in dresses.” She also expressed that she was not trying to attack Harry Styles, rather, she was going after Vogue. She continued to say that “men in dresses is perverted” and that “men in dresses are crazy.”

Harry Styles has stayed quiet, as his last Tweet was advertising the Vogue article written about him. The main response to Candance was from Harry’s fans and several other celebrities such as Zach Braff, Olivia Wilde, Kathy Griffin, and even Logan Paul.

This controversy also sparked a trend on TikTok that featured men of all lifestyles wearing dresses. Among the most popular videos is a lumberjack, putting on a dress and 8-inch heels and chopping wood, as well as countless men wearing maid costumes, prom dresses, and even just skirts.

Despite these debates, Harry Styles has made history with this look and definitely left his mark.
