Each year, Bishop O’Dowd sends a group of students to do field research in the Galápagos Islands over Spring Break. This “natural laboratory” is famous for its finches and other wildlife, including Marine iguanas, Blue Footed Boobies, Frigate birds, cormorants, sharks, and the iconic giant tortoises. All of which are under threat due to habitat loss, invasive species, and climate change. Students connect with Galapagos National Park officials and staff and local Galapagueño students in conservation activities on several islands to help learn about and preserve the vulnerable ecosystems of each island. The trip brings students face to face with the fragile beauty of this iconic, isolated archipelago.
